1. Write a statement for each of the following equation :

   i) x – 12 = 20     ii) 5x = 80  iii) x + 4 = 23  iv) =15 

  v) 3x – 4 = 28   vi) 12 – 2x = 28  vii) 18 + x = 6 

  viii) 45 – 3x = 5   ix) 8x = x + 8    x) 2x – 7 = 9

2. Verify by substitution that the root of

    i)5x – 2 = 8 is x=2 or not

    ii) 4y + 3 = 9 is x=3 or not

   iii) 3(x + 6) = 24 is x=2 or not

    iv) 2y + 4 = 3y    is y=4 or not

    v) 2x – 3 = 2x – 5x – 6 is x=4 or not
